I was driving around town recently and I saw that “God’s Not Dead,” the movie based on an email forward from your spinster aunt, was playing in the local theater. I was a bit surprised that a movie aimed at a niche evangelical Christian audience and given a limited theatrical release mostly in the deep south, would be playing here, in this liberal hippie college town in California. My best guess is that since the movie involves an evil asshole atheist professor getting shown up by a good Christian student, they thought that it would appeal to college kids as a revenge fantasy. Who knows?
Also, it turns out that they’re making a movie called HEAVEN IS REAL, the story of Colton Burpo, a boy who went to sleep and had a mysterious vision. And you know that never happens!
